London & Paris: Day 6

We are now home and I’m getting caught up on these blog posts!

Bletchley Park Mansion

We were busy nonstop and really enjoyed each other’s company, so I didn’t want to be stuck on my phone publishing blog posts. I’ll figure out a better system for future trips :)

Like I mentioned in Day 5’s post, the kids have really enjoyed each other’s company down in the lobby at night. I love spending time with them there and am grateful they don’t mind me there because they are very entertaining 😂

Forever messing with each other 😂

However, this means we were exhausted for today! Everyone stayed up way too late last night and were very sleepy on the bus ride this morning.

The “Lads” Touring Bletchley Park

Bletchley Park

Our first activity for the day was heading over to Bletchley Park, home of the World War 2 Codebreakers. It was absolutely beautiful there. We were able to walk around the park on our own before we had a guided tour. It was full of plants, trees and wildlife. Also, there were voice recordings playing that represented the voices of people who lived there when they played games outside on their breaks from work.

Living Quarters

Interesting fact: about 75% of the people who worked at Bletchley park were women, many of the men were away in the war.

Coding Workshop

After our walking tour of Bletchley Park we all got to participate in a coding activity “Breaking Lorenz”. We were given a code that we had to decipher using the same strategies Codebreakers had to use during the war. It really showed how difficult it was to decipher codes from the Nazis, and how vital it was that they created a machine that did the work for them.

Museum of Computing

After the coding activity we walked through the Museum of Computing. This showed the progression of technology over the years and the impact it has on us today!

The machines that were first made were incredible and mind-boggling

It was cool for the kids to see where it all started to get to us having handheld computers in our hands. I think the coding activity earlier in the day gave them a newfound appreciation for the technology we have readily available to us.

Playing some old school video games :)

Independent Adventure!

For dinner we had curry at an Indian restaurant, it was absolutely delicious! The kids destroyed it, even Richelle. :)

After we got back to the hotel relatively early, around 7:30pm, we decided to go off to explore some of London on our own!

It was awesome to see the kids help with navigating public transportation on our own without Francois (our tour director). Francois had mentioned to me that one of his main goals on tour is making sure we are comfortable being independent in the city, I would say he definitely succeeded!

Our destination was Green Park, but we ended up finding our way over to Hyde Park as well!

There were a lot of memorials and beautiful structures throughout the parks.

Hyde Park was HUGE, it was fun to explore but took us forever to get across it to find a bus stop. 😂

ANTONIO

Definitely the calmest and laid back day. The best part of Bletchley Park was sitting down on the lawn chairs. The computers and coding was interesting but knowing nothing about that stuff myself, I preferred to just chill.
