London & Paris: Day 1

Updated: Jul 22, 2022

Wednesday, July 20th

View from second floor in double decker bus!

We survived our arrival day! Arrival day is always known for being one of the most exhausting days on the trip, especially with how far we traveled from California. My main goal was making sure everyone was fed and hydrated - and got tons of sleep at night! (Besides making sure they were having fun, which is effortless with these 3 travelers).

Airport

We arrived in London around 7:45am and met up with a group of 4 from Kentucky who were on our same tour. Since we are also a small group of 4, EF combines small groups from around the country to make a larger group for the tour. We got some snacks and water, and exchanged some of our currency for pounds! The kids (my travelers, I will refer to them as “my kids” often) were so excited to see this new form of currency; apparently, it’s much prettier and crisp than our American dollars. Fun fact from Antonio: As far as we know, to this date, American currency is not printed with people who are blind in mind. Here, the visually impaired can feel which bill they have because they are each printed with tactile markings. Interesting!

The London Eye

After we grabbed some lunch over near the Thames river, we met up with another small group of 5 who would be joining our tour. We then got to take a ride on the London Eye! I love that we did this on our first day because we got to see the “big picture” of London. We could see EVERYTHING!

Did you know the London Eye is 443 feet tall?! Even though the heights made Richelle and I just a little bit nervous, it was 100% worth it and we would go up there again.

The National Gallery

After walking through London we got to visit The National Gallery. We walked through European art and were excited to see Van Gogh’s work!

Vincent van Gogh: A Wheatfield, with Cypresses, 1889

We had fun in the gift shop here and even though after we had been up and going for over 24 hours and felt like the picture below… we would like to think we also did not look this way.

MotherMash

After visiting The National Gallery we walked through more of London on our way to dinner! We ate at MotherMash, and to be honest, it was so good we forgot to take a picture to share. Absolutely delicious!

After dinner we were all ready to get back, take a shower, and SLEEP. I had absolutely no brain power to write this blog post, and neither did my kids! You will see more of their point of views soon. :)

Thank you for following along on our journey, I’m so excited to see what the rest of the tour brings!
