London & Paris: Day 2 (Part 1)

Thursday, July 21st

St. Paul’s Cathedral

Hello, hello! My apologies not getting this post up sooner. It has been so busy and I’ve been pulling some late nights and early mornings! In addition to that, my posts have not been saving as I’m editing and saving the drafts. I finished Day 2 way earlier today and when I published it, it had reverted to one of the first drafts of it! It was frustrating, but I will figure it out!

(P.S. please excuse any typos in these posts. I have ended up catching 20+ typos after my previous two blog posts. It’s hard to do from my phone and on very little brain power at night 😂)

The Restaurant at our Hotel!

We started our morning off with breakfast at the hotel and then began a city tour with a local guide, Alan. Alan was quite a comedian, and we were all excited to get to know a British person with a true British accent. He was quite skilled with alliteration as well, and he must love foods that start with a P because that’s what he called us! Plum Puddings, Prickly Pears, Poptarts, Porkchops, Pumpkins, etc.

Antonio, Ryan, Francois (Tour Director), Champlin, Richelle, Alan!

Alan was very knowledgeable and taught us so much about London. Interestingly enough, we learned that 1.3 trillion American dollars are made daily in the financial district of City of London, the City of London is actually only 1 square mile, often referred to as “The Square Mile” by locals. There are more U.S. banks in the City of London than in all of Manhattan, and more Japanese banks in the City of London than in all of Tokyo.

Dragon Statue

Dragon statues appear on streets as people drive in or out of the City of London. If you see the dragon’s face you are entering the City. If you see the tail of the dragon, you are leaving the City.

Westminster Abbey

Collegiate Church of Saint Peter at Westminster

Westminster Abbey has around 3,000 people buried on the grounds. These people are significant and contributed in someway to society. There are Kings and Queens of England’s and other influencers across the disciplines. These people include Charles Dickens, Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, and Stephen Hawking!
